Thomas Lynch’s best known book, The Undertaking: Life Studies from the Dismal Trade, is one of his three books of essays. He has also written four collections of poems, a book of stories, and his writing has appeared regularly in The New Yorker, Paris Review, and Granta. He lives in Milford, Michigan, where he has been a funeral director since 1974, and in Moveen, County Clare, Ireland, where he keeps an ancestral cottage His work as a funeral director and writer was the subject of a PBS-TV “Frontline” episode, which won an Emmy in 2008 for best art and culture documentary.
